ABOUT
Representing Rwanda at the East African Mathematical Olympiad (EAMO) in 2024 was a defining moment in my academic journey. Earning a silver medal not only validated years of dedicated preparation but also opened doors to opportunities I had only dreamed of, including my current studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The transition from competitive mathematics to computer science at MIT has been both challenging and exhilarating. The logical thinking and problem-solving strategies I developed during my Olympiad training have proven invaluable in tackling complex algorithms and software engineering challenges. Every day, I apply the same systematic approach I used to solve Olympiad problems to debug code, optimize algorithms, and design innovative software solutions.
My EAMO experience taught me that excellence isn't just about individual achievement—it's about lifting others as you climb. This philosophy drives my involvement in MIT's outreach programs, where I mentor underrepresented students in computer science and mathematics. I'm particularly passionate about encouraging young women from Africa to pursue STEM careers.
At MIT, I'm focusing on artificial intelligence and machine learning, with a particular interest in applications that can address challenges in developing countries. My senior thesis explores how AI can be used to improve agricultural productivity in Rwanda, combining my technical skills with my desire to contribute to sustainable development in East Africa.
The global perspective I gained from competing alongside brilliant minds from across East Africa continues to influence my approach to technology. I believe that diverse perspectives lead to more innovative solutions, and I'm committed to building bridges between the tech communities in Boston and East Africa.
Looking ahead, I plan to return to Rwanda after graduation to establish a tech startup focused on AI solutions for agriculture and healthcare. My goal is to create technology that not only advances the field but also makes a meaningful impact on the lives of people in my home country and across the African continent.
